Taijiquan & Taiji Qigong Classes

Beginners

 

Welcome to YMAA Tucson Tai Chi Ch'uan. I have 20 years of teaching experience in Wisconsin and am glad to share my experiences with new friends here in Tucson. I will help you to establish a new comfort in your body through the relaxing drills and co-ordinated breathing of Tai Chi Qigong. When you have gained ground in your balance, breath, co-ordination, and spirit, you may go forward to learning the Tai Chi sequences and make them your own. A lifetime investment...!

What is Tai Chi Chuan ?

Yang Style Tai Chi consists of slow, mindful body postures that co-ordinate with the breath and attention and define a sense of opponent. This ancient practice rebuilds your energy flow from the inside to outside, through subtle repetition and perfection of intention. Once you learn, it's yours forever, and will last a lifetime. The initial learning process begins internally with stationary and moving Taiji Qigong. Eventually, you will move to the next level with Taiji Martial Qigong, Tai Chi Sequence (14 movements), part 1, and simple 2 person drills. During the acquisition of the Sequence a student learns to apply the

 5 Regulating Principles:​

  1. Regulate the Body

  2. Regulate the Breath

  3. Regulate the Mind

  4. Regulate the Qi

  5. Regulate the Spirit

Once you have learned the sequence you will learn about the optional Martial applications which are the underpinnings of Tai Chi Chuan. Practicing Taiji consistently helps you:

  • Increase osteo-circulation for greater bone density

  • Engage in a social ritual with others

  • Improve Balance and Proprioception

  • Deepen and soften breathing

Classes will be held at Studio Space/4648 E. Speedway, Tucson, AZ

 Classes are available, with two options for fitness level.  

 

Tuesday/Thursday 9-9:45AM is Basic Fitness Level, and will introduce slow repetetive Tai Chi Qigong, stationary and moving, to start the process of strengthening the physical body while introducing access to your Qi body through Tai Chi Qigong.

 

Tuesday/Thursday 10 - 11:15AM   Classic Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Sequence, part 1, 22 movements.  This more rigorous level is the introduction to the entire Yang style barehand sequence. 

 

Both Classes can be repeated for emphasis and reinforcement. Handouts, Videos will be furnished and additional learning materials will be made available for purchase.
